As Olivia and Brax battle their feelings for each other, echoes of the past year begin to surface. A boy who once turned Olivia’s whole world upside down reappears, and “harmless” pranks wreak havoc. Pretty soon the aspiring astronomer is on the verge of revealing her most difficult, heartbreaking secret. All the while, Brax must wrestle with the irrevocable dare, and Olivia struggles against all logic as she does the one thing only a stupid girl would do: fall in love.
I loved Stupid Girl so much. This book made me feel all the feelings. I stayed up until 4 am reading Stupid Girl and I don’t regret one second of it. This book will make you smile, it will make you root for Olivia and Brax, it will make you want to hit Brax, it will make you cry. Stupid Girl is one of the best books that I have read in a while. It is told mainly from Olivia’s point of views, with just a couple of chapters scattered in there from Brax. I liked this technique because it made it mainly Olivia’s story, but I love Brax so much so I was longing from his point of view when his chapters were far and few in between. Mostly because he is just so mysterious, I had to know where he stood.
The story starts a year in the past, with a traumatic event in Olivia’s life. Immediately after, we fast forward to present day, when Olivia is about to start college. That one event shapes so much of who Olivia is. When Brax runs into Olivia on the move in day, I was just as skeptical of his as she was. I mean, he certainly tried very, VERY hard to get her first name. But soon after that, it was clear as day to me that he was genuine when it concerned her. I loved everything about him. I loved his nickname for her, I loved their banter, I loved their texts, I loved how protective he was of her. And I loved how he was just as guarded as her. Watching the two of them become more comfortable and real around each other was simply beautiful.
The secondary characters were just as great as the main characters. I loved Olivia’s family and roommate. Tessa is very different than Olivia, but even though at first glance they are complete opposites, Tessa is so genuine and nice with Olivia. I admired her so much as a roommate. She is just a cool girl. And Olivia’s family is freakin’ awesome. Her brothers and grandpa Jilly are just great.
Cindy Miles wrote such a compelling story. There was delicious conflict, the most complex and developed romantic connection. I don’t think anyone will see Olivia and Brax and not feel and completely believe their feelings for each other. It was like getting a glimpse into an epic love story. What starts out as a fairly standard plot of a 90s romantic comedy movie, turned into oh so much more. I can’t even tell you how much I loved Brax and Olivia. This is a book that I know I will revisit in the future. Heck a book that can have me smiling, laughing, swooning, and bawling like a baby this much is a hit with me. Stupid Girl just resonated with me. I can’t say enough good things about Stupid Girl. I will recommend this book to everyone. Read it. Now!
