Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, RomanceEscapeInYou

Summary:

This new adult contemporary romance contains mature themes and is recommended for ages 18+
This is a complete story with no cliffhanger!
Jet Taylor is the quintessential bad boy. A womanizer. A fighter. Dangerous. The type of guy most girls do their best to avoid. But Zoe Janes is no saint herself. In fact, she sees in Jet the perfect opportunity to distract herself from her responsibilities at home and the mistakes that keep her trapped there. He’s gorgeous, likes to party, and is clearly only interested in having fun—just like Zoe.
The more time they spend together, the harder it is for Zoe to stick to her “fun only” mantra. Jet is getting under her skin, making her believe things could actually be different. She knows they’re both trapped by the sins of their past but Jet is starting to make her think freedom might actually be possible.
And that makes him the most dangerous boy of all.

My Thoughts
Escape in You is the first book by Rachel Schurig that I have had the pleasure of reading. It is an emotional new adult contemporary that deals with some darker themes. Escape in your is told in a dual narrative, split between Zoe and Taylor’s point of views. Zoe and Taylor both have a lot to deal with on their plates, both at home and personally. After reading the book, I realized how similar the two of them were. It was eerily how similar they were. They were both closed off and dealing with sick mothers, even though the sicknesses stemmed from different things and manifested itself in different ways, the result was still the same. They each had to take on too much, too young. My favorite part of Escape in You was watching these Iron, bullet proof walls that Zoe and Taylor maintain around them at all times, come down. Escape in You is really about two people trying to find their way, and trying to see if they can find something safe and real in someone else. It ended up being a really sweet romance.

Zoe and Taylor’s moms both treated them awful. For different reasons, and I felt like Zoe’s mom didn’t really mean it. It was easier for me to tell myself it was because of her sickness, than it was with Taylor’s mom. I know she was going through a lot too, but she just seemed crueler to me. I felt so bad for Taylor, some of the things that she said to him just made my heart break. I felt bad for Zoe too. She is left to try and balance her life with a full time job of taking care of her mom. And on top of all of that when Zoe meets Taylor, they both know pretty quickly that the other person is someone special. Zoe denies it for so long, I thought it was cute that Taylor was the one that realized what his feelings were for Zoe way before Zoe admitted it to herself. She just wanted to keep it light and fun, but it was clear to everyone that they were way past that. I just wanted Zoe to admit it to herself.

But, like I said, the two of them are so similar that neither of them wants to admit anything or really let the other person in because they are afraid of getting hurt. And they are both embarrassed about what was going on in their home. I just wanted them take a chance on the other person, because I liked the growth and the people they were when they were together. This book is not all sunshine and roses. There are real, tough issues discussed and there are some ugly parts of people that come out to play, but the end result is so worth it. The romance is broken and beautiful. I really enjoyed Escape in You.blue4
