Summary:

Fire meets ice. Love meets hate.
Seventeen-year-old Isis Blake hasn’t fallen in love in three years, nine weeks, and five days, and after what happened last time, she intends to keep it that way. Since then she’s lost eighty-five pounds, gotten four streaks of purple in her hair, and moved to the Buttcrack-of-Nowhere Ohio to help her mom escape a bad relationship.
All the girls in her new school want one thing – Jack Hunter, the Ice Prince of East Summit High. Hot as an Armani ad, smart enough to get into Yale, and colder than the Arctic, Jack Hunter’s never gone out with anyone. Sure, people have seen him downtown with beautiful women, but he’s never given high school girls the time of day. Until Isis punches him in the face.
Jack’s met his match. Suddenly everything is a game.
The goal: Make the other beg for mercy.
The game board: East Summit High.
The reward: Something neither of them expected.

My Thoughts

I am still thinking about Lovely Vicious days after I read it. This book really affected me and left a mark on me. I ended up absolutely loving it. I need to have the next book right now, not want. Need. I really, really want to read the next book right now. Sara Wolf did an amazing job creating a book that was beautiful in it’s sadness. But that isn’t the thing that most got to me. I have loved books before and books have made me think about them long after I read them before, but not quite like this. You see, in the first part of the book, I didn’t think I was going to like it nearly as much as I did because of the main character, Isis. I liked her but she is so loud and kind of obnoxious and very much acted her age. I wanted to like her but she was just so over the top and in your face. But as I kept reading the book, I started to see what Jack saw about her, that it was just a front- a shield to protect her from what was happening. And I started to like her more. Her crazy personality became endearing to me and the story that Sara Wolf created sucked me in and took a hold of my heart.

Isis never wants to fall in love again. She was hurt in her past by a guy and it was bad enough to make her swear off all guys. So when she goes to a new school and sees this guy Jack being so callous and rude to sweet Kayla, something goes off inside of Isis and she makes it a mission to make him pay for being such a jerk to everyone. They call him the ice prince at school, and there is a reason for it. Jack is a jerk to her, he isn’t going down with out a fight and he lashes back right at her. The interesting thing is that they are both people watchers and keen observers so they really get people and they each know the low blows to really get to the other one.

Isis becomes sucked in with the mystery of Jack and she starts digging around in his past for more ammo to destroy him. She goes over the top and she becomes obsessed with this war. She walks a very fine line between being a great character and being too annoying for me, but then the magic of the story starts to happen. Through this war Jack and Isis start breaking away at each others hard exteriors and they start to unintentionally get to know the person beneath. That is where the book gold is. It is not all sunshine and rainbows. It is sad, and beautiful and heartbreaking. I cried more than once. loved their journey. And then when I was so in love with the story Sara Wolf ripped my heart out with that ending! Holy cow. I just wanted to hug Jack, and Isis. I wanted someone to hug me! Heck, I don’t know but most of all I just wanted the next book. Lovely Vicious was one crazy journey. This is an intense book. If you are like me and Isis just doesn’t do it for you at the start, DON’T GIVE UP. This book is so beyond worth it. I think you will end up loving it! (or maybe she won’t annoy you at all and you will love it all the way through.) Either way, Lovely Vicious is incredible.

About Sara Wolf

Sara Wolf is a twenty-something author who adores baking, screaming at her cats, and screaming at herself while she types hilarious things. When she was a kid, she was too busy eating dirt to write her first terrible book. Twenty years later, she picked up a keyboard and started mashing her fists on it and created the monster known as the Lovely Vicious series. She lives in San Diego with two cats, a crippling-yet-refreshing sense of self-doubt, and not enough fruit tarts ever.
