Welcome to my stop on the Eyes of Ember blog tour!
I have a different kind of review for you today. I read book 1- Kiss of Fire and book 2- Eyes of Ember back to back because I just had to keep reading them, but because of that things are a little jumbled. So my review will be of both books 1 and 2.
Can’t get enough of Jos? Check out my character interview with her
Age Group: YA
Series: Imdalind 1 & 2
Summary of Eyes of Ember:
Joclyn is in hiding, hunted by the man she still desperately loves. Ryland is gone, his mind

erased; no memory of Joclyn remains, but Joclyn’s heart desperately begs her to hold out hope. Meanwhile the black-eyed monster that possesses him attempts to kill her over and over again.

If it wasn’t for Ilyan, Joclyn would be dead by now.
Ilyan, the man who once stalked her, is now Joclyn’s protector, the only person she has left. He protects Joclyn from the men who seek to end her life, and all the while, she is haunted by dreams where Ryland begs her to break the bond between them.
Ilyan is there. Always there.
Ilyan trains and prepares her, teaching her everything she needs to know in the hope that one day she can avenge Ryland, if not protect herself from him.
And then, there is her father.
The man who has never been there is suddenly responsible for everything. And who he is has made Joclyn into something she never wanted to be:
The Silnỳ.
This series really impressed me. It actually blew me away. At first I wasn’t sure how on board with this whole mark thing ruining Jos’ life. I know it meant her father left, but I didn’t see it doing too much else, but then I got to know Jos better and I could see that it was basically socially crippling for her. Insert Ryland and I was so grateful for him in the first book. I couldn’t imagine liking anyone other than him.
I will warn you guys that there is a love triangle in the second book. One that I thought was a little unfair at first. Ryland basically wasn’t himself and I felt bad that he was getting the short end of the stick but I ended up loving, loving what Rebecca did with the books. She is just such an awesome writer that she pulls you right into the story. I was riveted. Kiss of Fire and Eyes of Ember are such interesting books that I really didn’t want to put either of them down.
There is a lot of information that you get all at once about half way through the first book and I was a little overwhelmed but after that things slow down a little bit and you learn about the world and the people a little bit slower and in smaller pieces, which was much easier for me.
I thought for sure I would be team Ryland because he was just so sweet and I am a sucker for the nice guy. Llyan seems nice though too, and that is always the hardest thing for me. When there are two nice guys, what do you do? I ended up being team Jos. I loved watching her grow as a character. She had some development and growth in the first book but I still felt like she was hiding herself big time. But in the second book, man oh man she completely shined. It made me so happy to see such a natural growth and development. It didn’t seem rushed at all. That is the beauty of Rebecca’s writing. I’m not going to ruin what happens, I will just tell you that I need to read the next book ASAP. I am so invested in the storyline. I love all of the magic and the intricacy that Rebecca used to work everything together. There were a few things that I didn’t see coming in the first book and even more so in the second book.
If you like magic and paranormal books you NEED to read this series. It is a high quality series. Rebecca Ethington makes writing and world building seem easy, because she does such an awesome job with it.
4.5/5 Gavels

A good solid paranormal series, that is always nice to hear, especially since I have been in a reading slump lately. Thanks for the recommendation. These books sound different. My only hesitation is the love triangle in book two!
