Today I have my review of Surface as well as a top 10 list about Tiffany and a cool giveaway
Publication: February, 2013 by Noble Young Adult
Genre: YA Paranormal
Source: ecopy from Author
Series: #1
Summary:
Bound to the water bound to land, a Siren’s soul will never be safe on either side of the ocean’s surface. Hidden beneath the rolling waves lies the secret to Theia’s past and as she unveils each haunting truth, she realizes the last seventeen years of her life have been a lie. Now, drawn into a mysterious new world and with nowhere to turn, Theia must place her trust in Luc, a beautiful boy who stops her heart with each dazzling smile, but even his unearthly charm can’t hide the truth—he has secrets— dark secrets binding him to his world—an underwater world where Theia will never belong—a world determined to destroy her soul.
I have now written this review three times because I lost it everytime I went to save it. (please keep that in mind haha.)

I have been in a reading slump lately. I have just been so busy that whenever I finally make time to sit down and read, I was so stressed that the books just seemed kind of meh. I am happy to say that Surface broke my reading slump. I was able to just lose myself in this book for a few hours and I really enjoyed it! It was kind of like a mermaid book. It really was a siren book but the closest thing I can describe it as was mermaid esque. I have never read a siren book yet so I’m not sure if their descriptions were pretty typical or unique, but I liked their depiction in Surface.

Theia has it pretty rough at the start of the story. I felt awful for her and I wasn’t really sure the direction that the story was going in at the beginning. But after about 25 pages or so the paranormal element came to light and it was much smoother sailing for me from there. It was at this point that I got sucked right into the story and didn’t “surface” until I was done a few hours later. Theia is a fighter. She is smart and practical and so sweet. I loved all of those things about her. I was really rooting for her and it was so easy to connect with her. Luc was also pretty cool but I didn’t feel like I got to know him as much. I can’t wait for the next book so I can get more of Luc’s backstory and see his character develop some more.

Surface takes place partly under water, and I thought the underwater buildings and everything were so cool. I wish the world was described a little better because they had structures and indoor areas and I wanted to learn more about the logisitics of everything, but while I was reading I was fascinated with the underwater scenes.

There are multiple characters and storylines that all converge as the story goes on. I thought this part of the book was really well done. I liked how everything was woven together. Tiffany Daune did a great job with that. And as the story goes on, the more and more the action builds. Sirens are very sought after so it seemed like everyone was coming for Theia. But im putting my money on her. Every time.

Surface is the type of book that you can pick up and easily read in one sitting. It is fast paced and interesting and it was exactly what I needed right now. I can’t wait for the second book. There is so much I want to happen in it. I want to learn more about the main characters and about the world- including that mermaids gate!

3.5/5 Gavels

Tiffany Daune doesn’t get why people want to grow up or why anyone would ever stop eating candy. Her purse is filled with books, lip gloss and a few pieces of Lego bricks. She writes best with a dish of chocolate chips on hand and finds licorice makes a better straw than plastic.

She lives on an island and believes mermaids may be raiding her candy stash, thoughshe hasn’t caught them, yet.

Surface is her first novel and pairs well with gummy sharks.

10 things you didn’t know about Tiffany:

1. She’s clumsy
2. She dances when she gets writer’s block
3. She makes goofy faces in the mirror
4. She does a pretty good ape impression
5. She used to scuba dive
6. She wanted a chimpanzee when she was eight
7. She eats peanut butter with a spoon
8. She sometimes read novels while cooking
9. She can’t ride a bicycle

About Tiffany Daune

I write stories about magick, love and dark creatures lurking in the shadows. When I’m not lost in Edit Land you can find me reading a book from my towering TBR pile or at the movie theater nibbling licorice. I don’t have a lucky number, but my favorite time is 11:11. I completely believe that the fortunes found inside cookies will come true and that you must be careful when wishing on stars. I live on an island, so if you want to visit you’ll need a boat, and if you want to survive the passage be sure to bring candy for the mermaids.

I’m cracking up over your 10 things list. Reminds me of my kids when they were young. My daughter did a very good jungle bird imitation to make my son’s chimpanzee imitation. For a long time, I thought I lived in a zoo!
